10/11 Experience
Today I went to Shibata city with
Kentaro-san. We visited the Shibata Castle before going to Arturas Valiauga’s
photography exhibition opening. The opening was fun, especially because the exhibition
is inside a sake brewery. Also, the best photo in the exhibition was actually a
picture of Kentaro-san!
Differences between Japan & America
I am thinking about how my experiences in
Toyomi are different from my life in America. Here are some of the big
differences:
l In America, to call someone “obedient” (素直) is a bad thing, but in Japan it is a good thing.
l I do not have a garden at home in America! In Toyomi, many homes
have gardens.
l Many American students travel to different countries during or after
college. But in Niigata, this is not common.
l In America, I have breakfast alone and I always eat bread or cereal.
In Toyomi, we always eat breakfast together and it is rice, miso soup, and
vegetables.
l I do not live near a river in America because it is very expensive.
In Aga town, many of the villages are near the river.
l When we eat fish in America, we do not bite off the head!
l American homes use electric heating, but the Sato family burns
firewood in a stove.
l There are no monkeys in my hometown in America but we see them often
here!
l There are no onsens in America, but we have pools with cold water
for the hot summer.
l I do not have a grandmother at home, but in Toyomi I have Obaa-chan!
